Discover the Support You Need

Life can be challenging, and it's normal to need a little extra support sometimes. Counselling offers a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behaviours, and develop strategies to cope with life's difficulties.

Issues Counselling Can Help With

Counselling can support individuals through a wide range of issues, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety: Understanding the root causes of anxiety and developing effective coping mechanisms.
  • Depression: Providing a space to discuss feelings of sadness and hopelessness, and finding ways to improve mood and outlook.
  • Stress: Identifying sources of stress and developing healthier coping strategies to manage it effectively.
  • Grief: Navigating the difficult emotions associated with loss, finding ways to honour your grief, and moving forward at your own pace.
  • Relationship Issues: Exploring challenges in romantic relationships, family dynamics, or friendships and figuring out how best to address and manage these issues.
  • Self-Esteem: Building self-confidence and fostering a positive self-image.
  • Trauma: Processing traumatic experiences in a safe environment and working towards healing and recovery.
  • Substance Use: Understanding the underlying causes of substance use and developing strategies for change.
  • Gender Identity: Providing support for exploring and understanding gender identity, fostering self-acceptance and confidence.
  • Sexuality: Offering a safe space to explore and understand their sexuality, promoting a healthy and positive self-image.

Let's Start Your Journey

If you're ready to take the first step towards improved emotional well-being, please schedule an initial consultation.

The Counselling Process

When you decide to start counselling, the first step is to book an initial consultation. This initial session is slightly longer, allowing us to discuss the areas you’re looking for support in. Even if you’re not sure what the exact issue is, feeling unlike yourself is reason enough to seek help.

During this session

I will get to know you and together we’ll agree on how best to work together. We’ll also go through the counselling agreement, a document outlining my responsibilities as your counsellor and the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship. This agreement ensures that you know what to expect and feel secure in the process.

At the end of the initial consultation

You will have the option to book your next session right away or do so at a later date online. While I recommend a minimum of six sessions on a weekly basis to begin with to truly experience the benefits of counselling, the number and frequency of sessions will ultimately depend on your unique needs and circumstances.

Confidentiality:

Your privacy is of utmost importance. Everything discussed in our sessions is confidential, with a few exceptions related to safety. This means that you can speak freely and openly, knowing that your information is secure and your privacy respected. We will talk about this further in the initial consultation.

Frequently asked questions

What can I expect during my first counselling session?

During your first session, also known as the initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss the issues you're facing and what you hope to achieve through counselling. I will ask questions to understand your background and current situation better. This session is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

How long will I need to attend counselling?

The length of time you spend engaging in counselling depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people find that a few sessions are sufficient, while others may benefit from longer-term support. We will work together to develop a plan that suits your unique situation, and you can adjust the frequency and duration of sessions as needed. I normally recommend attending a minimum of 6 sessions on a weekly basis to begin with and then after this some clients arrange sessions as and when they feel they need the support.

Is what I talk about in counselling sessions confidential?

Yes, everything discussed in counselling sessions is confidential. This means that your privacy is respected, and information will not be shared without your consent, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

What if I don't know how to talk about my feelings?

It's common to find it difficult to express our feelings. I will help you explore your thoughts and emotions in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. I can use various techniques and exercises to facilitate this process, making it easier for you to open up at your own pace.

Are sessions online or in person?

All counselling sessions are in person at my office, conveniently located in town at Bourne House, Francis Street, St Helier. If you are driving in, my office is close to Green Street Car Park, or SnowHill Car Park.
